Re: Blogging Fatso!
No John, I finished polishing the body, I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow. Still have to marry the neck and body, mount the tuners, make the nut and saddle, mount the bridge, etc... So close and yet so far!

Re: Blogging Fatso!
There are a couple of spots where I have some very minor sand through. I don't think that I'm even going to address it, I'm just going to leave them alone.

Good looking finish! Was the sand through on the edge of the bindings? I could not see anything in the photos.
Be careful with your tools while you are preparing the top to glue the bridge down or installing the tuners. I managed to drop a tool on my daugther's guitar during inital setup. :(.

OK, here's a run down of defects. The first one is, well, I'm not sure what it is, I initially thought that it was sand through but upon further inspection there is no bare wood showing. It looks more like a small spot that for some reason didn't get buffed out, it is located where the waist transitions into the lower bout. It's hard to see but in the photo it is right above the "Glare" band, left of center, about 3/4" from the binding. The good news is that when holding the guitar as if playing it, the spot is on the bottom side.
Picture number 3 shows a sand through spot on the binding in the corner of the upper bout, there is one more spot just like it but a little bit longer, it's on the same side closer to the waist (took a photo but it came out too blurry).

These spots are pretty bad and I will need to do something with them, any suggestions? I'm looking for the magic pixie dust solution.

Re: Blogging Fatso!
This is with Nitro? With my only nitro finished guitar (the Les Paul kit), I had an ounce or so of finish that I let thicken a bit. I used the thickened finish to drop fill. Once the fill hardened I used a razor blade with tape on the edges to scrap the fill as flush as I could (with the tape). I then used fine sand paper to take it flush. Playing around I found that instead of sanding like normal. I used a strip of sandpaper and placed it on the the fill. With a little pressure on the fill I pulled the strip through taking down the fill. Once the fill was flush, I took it through the sanding and polishing sessions to macth the rest of the guitar.
I am not an expert and am just giving you a description of how I dealt with it.

Yes John, this is nitro, rattle cans to be precise. I like the sound of your method, however I'm not going to run out to the shop to try it out just yet, I still have hope that someone will chime in with the magic pixie dust solution that I so desperately seek, anyway, how long did you let the drop fill cure before scraping and sanding?
