Ok gluing the binding/purfling was pretty intense for me. I deviated a little from the kit and bought some pre-formed herringbone purfling from Blues Creek, thank you John! They were a perfect fit and I am so glad I made this purchase.

Your anxiety is a completely normal response. Reading your story about going thru it is probably gonna give me flashbacks and nightmares tonight. :-) Your work looks really clean and professional. Can't wait to see the finished kit!

Yep! I remember those anxieties! I may have nightmares myself tonight!
Your guitar is looking good! Take your time, I built my first one with Bill Corey's book and some help from John Hall!

Yes, I feel like my next kit should come from Blues Creek just to show support for all of the amazing information gleaned from this site and his videos.

John is AWESOME to deal with! He set me up with a solid mahogany kit that I built for my daughter. Here is a link to the thread. This is the best sounding mahogany top guitar that I have ever heard! Here is the link!

Wow Benjy that is a beautiful guitar! Thank you for sharing that link. I noticed yesterday while I was scraping the binding that not all of it is "proud" of the body sides. Not quite sure what do about it, I don't want to scrape the bindings at an angle just to clean them up nor do I want a step from the sides to the binding. I'm wondering if I need to scrape/sand the sides down to meet the binding in these areas. It's not real bad, I'm tempted to just lightly scrape the binding with a razor blade just to clean off the glue and call it good. Any suggestions?

I would sand the side's down to the binding. But you do know that you can't build the first one perfect so you can have an excuse to build another one!

What kind of finish are you going to use?

Looking good there.

Oh man do I remember that anxiety about setting my first neck! We've all been there.

I think I was my own worst enemy, because I thought for days about what steps I was going to take and in what order. I made notes from John Hall's videos. Haha

Now, I don't think twice.

John helped me get my stuff together for my first guitar as well. In fact, I just sold it! I could never have done it without John's help.

When he tell you that, "we're here to help", he really means it!

Thank you for the advise Diane and Benjy.
Diane that guitar is beautiful, I've never seen anything like that walnut before, amazing!

Well I'm all sanded, pore filled and sealed. Ready for some Nitro, I bought the finishing kit from StewMac and purchased some tobacco brown also. I'm going to try to get as close as I can to the western shade finish on the Collings.
