How thin?, You might be able to glue it back together. You will have 3 or 4 braces across it soon.

The rims look great, I like the solid linings.

It was about as thin as construction paper at the thinnest spot. But at the edges its fine as you can see from the pics.

You're right though I could glue the crack with CA and put a wider than normal reinforcement strip say 1" wide. Do ya think that would be OK?

Dang, that is a bummer. Thin as construction paper is pretty thin. I'd be slightly concerned about the guitar down the road, that thin getting bumped, might put a hole in it.
It sure looks nice though. Is your other back as nice? You do have to be careful with power sanders. The can take wood away in a hurry, and unevenly as you experienced too.
Hope it works out for you, your doing great work.

I think you're right Kevin. the back is pretty floppy. The other back is similar. I think I should play it safe and wait for a new back strip and start over.

Yikes!

Yea, 60 grit is way too much horsepower for an already thicknessed back. Especially in a power sander. Probably shouldn't need more than 220 and a little patience once you get it planed down.

Good luck getting it caught back up! Looking forward to seeing it finished =)

K I got a new strip and made a new back plate. Here it is. I braced it with western red cedar.

This is a sitka top from a martin kit. It had the sound hole and rosette already. I braced it with Red Spruce (Adi). Can anybody guess the guitar makers I am trying to emulate?

Lookin good so far. I made a padauk/sitka (actually two, one is waiting completion). LOVED it. I love working with the wood, great smell, though the dust gets into everything and stains. I tended to do a lot more scraping with padauk than sanding. very good clean work so far.

Thanks Ken. Thats a cool looking guitar! Did you enhance the padauk with a red stain or something because it looks very red. I like it a lot.

Thanks! I think shooting it with a blue wall behind it is what did it. Nothing else special was done to the wood.
