Re: Black Locust and Torrefied Red Spruce OM
The 1930's 0M did not have one back radius, but rather, several. I'm not smart enough to make a compound radii dish, so, relying on my airplane-building experience, this morning I'm making a jig of formers with the radii built in.
I don't have a large format plotter, so rather than having them printed elsewhere, today I'm using the back of old bluelines to make quick 8.5x21 prints of the formers on my office printer, which I drew in AutoCAD.
More to come...
Best wishes!

Here's a link to the late Ken Cierpilowski's way of creating a simple alternative to a radius dish. https://www.harvestmoonguitars.com/kenn ... rtool.html. I used old business cards after retirement. That's posted on his website now maintained by John Parchem, acousticguitarconstructionforum.com. Check it out.

Hi Carl!
I've seen that done online with playing cards by a builder in Scotland, too. I haven't tried it, though. Looks like a fine idea. Thanks for the link!
Best wishes!

Top plate sprayed with shellac this morning to prevent tearout.
My sweet wife buys pantyhose for me at the dollar store so I can strain before shooting.
Needed to print the templates for my back bracing sanding block cauls so I tried something new. I used some paper tape from the first aid kit, and joined two 8.5x11 sheets at the end. Ran thru the printer just fine & dandy.
Best wishes!

Bottom plate's frame assembly jig is ready for duty. Attached to the cauls is 80 grit with carpet tape.
I've drawn and printed the rosette, pickguard, and backstrip. I've stripped apart the herringbone for the rosette inlay, and the basswood I ripped is in the dye, soaking.
Best wishes!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
Center seam reinforcement glued and sanded. Warmed the backplate with a heat gun while using HHG.
Back braces rough-shaped and their respective bottom radii sanded.
Currently cutting the slots in the center seam reinforcement for the back braces.
Best wishes!

I may be talking to an empty room, but...
After taking my sweet time doing so, I've routed the rosette channels, and sealed with shellac. Glad that's in the rear view.
Best wishes!

Thank you kindly, Kevin. Slowly, but surely with the progress. I'm only semi-retired, with a small business to run, so slow & steady she goes. I do thoroughly enjoy it, as I hope you enjoy building yours as much. Great stress-reliever, and keeps me out of pubs and pool halls.
Stained the back, and started laying in & gluing the rosette.
The MOP diamonds and squares arrived in the Post. Not too shabby, I think. I went to buy a sheet at Woodcraft, in order to cut my own, and the price they charge is ridiculous. These will do nicely.
Best wishes!
