Well I finished another complicated area, the pearl around the fretboard extension. John’s D-45 pearl video was a godsend. I did have to remake one of the long side pieces after I cut it too short. Following John’s advise, I completed all these difficult sections and miters first, so next is the pearl around all the edges.

I just completed setting the pearl around the back perimeter. Using solid paua pearl. Learning much about the process, which techniques give the best results. Leveled things out and brushed on a couple wash coats of shellac. I will have a few spots to address before actual finish, but so far nothing too screwed up.

Thanks Kevin. John supplied that binding in my kit, which is standard for Martin D-45s. I intent to knock back the stark whiteness of it with a whisper of tinted clear when finishing, so it sits better with color of the ivoroid.

Thanks for the compliments. Like your 000-28 kit, my kit came from John at Blues Creek. I have woodworking for quite a while, also. You should get a nice result with your kit!
