I have a thing for local/native wood, and had always heard that Black Locust was a really good tonewood. So I kept my eyes open and a wood hoarder in Asheville had some nice air dried QS Black Locust. Off I went….
Nice straight grain, fairly plain appearance.

Skip ahead about a dozen cracked sides, and you get to this point…
The back completely inverted on me at one point. Humidity change was what I blamed. The guitar did get named “tater chip” at this point. Chisel/plane off all the braces and do over, in the opposite orientation
Early fuming experiment. Fairly green.
Piecework rosette - walnut, cherry, spalted maple I think.

Neck is a pretty standard stacked blank with the head scarfed. Wood was Frazier magnolia from a tree that came down on our property and I sawed up years ago.
I did cut the neck shaft on the CNC Found a nice pics of walnut for a head plate. Inlay was done in the CNC, filled with MOP flakes.
