Tru-Oil Application Question

Post by scamp »

Just finished pore filling my rosewood back and sides and mahogany neck.
Took 5 applications of Aqua Coat to get it right but it looks good.
It was recommended I put a coat of shellac over the Aqua Coat filled back, sides and neck and scuff it with 320 sandpaper before I apply the Tru-Oil.
My question is what about the Sitka top?
Right now it is just sanded ( no sealer ).
I have seen some videos of people applying Tru-Oil directly onto the wood without sealer.
So... Does it make sense to seal the Sitka top before Tru-Oil or not?
Opinions???

I don't think it makes much difference either way. Finishing is definitely not my strong suit though, so you should probably get a second opinion.
Don't believe everything you know.
Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.
