I use John's technique for removing finish from under the bridge with the inlay tool. It's the best way of creating a truly pristine gluing surface. It has the added benefit of creating a kind of "reservoir" for the glue too.

FYI

When I was doing research on attaching the fret board to the neck I ran into this youtube video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTUVB_6NK5A

The luthier shows how to use salt to keep the fret board from moving while gluing it up.
I thought it was a cool idea but I was concerned that the salt might have a reaction with the glue.
Did some additional research and found more info on this....

https://www.woodmagazine.com/wood-suppl ... techniques.

In this post, someone from Titebond was asked about this and ....

"According to Jeff Loflin, glue specialist at Franklin International (maker of Titebond wood glues), salt (and sugar, too, by the way) can react with wood glue and alter its composition, resulting in a weakened joint."

So... Don't do this.
