beginners first question: RE: Necks

I am new to this group. I am building a J-45, and I am a little worried about doing the neck myself. I have looked at lmii and they have precarved neck, but my plans state that the scale length is 24.8. I saw that they have 24.9 does it make a difference? The second part of my question is what if I wanted to do a 12 fret. How do I go about this? Again, I am new to this process, and would appreciate any assistance you can give me. Thanks a head of time.
