Building a Gibson SG-style kit. The ground wire from the tailpiece post, is it to be soldered onto the back of a pot-joining the overall grounding loop-or should I solder it to the shielding tape enveloping the control cavity?

On new construction, I don't run ANY of my grounds to the back of a pot. If the shielding is grounded properly that is my preferred location, too easy to develop grounding loops when loading them up on the pots.

I make one location on the shield for all the grounds to be soldered to and then run a ground wire to the ground post on the plug.

I do use a copper tape to encase all circuits in the cavities.

Thank you all for your comments. This kit came with silver shield tape, just enough to cover control cavity. Should I order some copper tape to do pickup cavities? I have metal enclosed humbuckers and stewmac forum suggests this is unnecessary.

Tim, What about p-up & output jack grounds? Sounds like a PITA to run them to the foil shield. I too shield with foil. I put the P-up grounds to their respective volume pots, run the bridge ground and output ground to one of the volumes and let the shielding take care of completing the circuit to the tones.
