Kenneth Michael bridge clamp?

Post by jgillan3 »

Hi all. Getting through my first build and am ready to glue the front and back on a stewmac ooo kit. in the manual it says to build two cauls: one for the bridge and one for the shoulder braces. My question is two fold: 1. has anyone used the kenneth michael bridge clamp? is it worth getting as i plan on making more guitars for sure. It seems to be a nice little jig.
2. It appears that the clamp would eliminate the need for the bridge caul. Is that true?

side question: what happened to the main website for kitguitarbuilder.com? It was really helpfull.

thanks for any feedback

Jim,
You can make clamps that work the same - depends on if you like to buy or make things - some scrap and a few hardware bits and you can make one to exactly fit your bridge size. You will still need an inner caul to run the longer screws through. I've made several because I've used a couple different pinhole spacings. round off the corners and DON'T DROP IT ON YOUR TOP. DAMHIKT...

This one is hog/walnut with a satin varnish finish ;) (the clamp, not the guitar!)

These are simple to make. We have on that can span 2 in to 2 3/8 inch hole spacing. Yes they are simple and will do the job.

I own the KGB bridge setting tool and it is nice to have (I don't like to build my own tools). He also sells a package deal which includes the bride setting tool and the bridge locating tool, very easy to use, it locates off the neck, no fumbleing around with rulers or scales or third hands and reasonable priced.

I have the similar Fox bridge, and it works great, available from LMI I think.

I think Charles Fox was the originator of this type of bridge clamp. Easy to make and this is what I use.
