Hi all,
I've got my rosette done - I used 0.060" thick b/w/b on the inner and outer rings and 0.040" on both sides of the abalone in the center.
With that in mind...
I'll soon be routing my binding and top purfling channels. My current plan is 0.060" b/w/b on both sides of 0.125" abalone for the top. Which means my purfling channel will be 0.305" inboard from the sides... 0.060" binding + 0.120" b/w/b + 0.125" abalone.
Is the 0.060" b/w/b too thick? Should I use 0.040" on both sides of the abalone instead of the 0.060"?
This is probably a matter of taste, but I don't want to route into my top and then realize I should've used the 0.040" b/w/b. What do you guys usually use?
As always, thanks...

Re: Purfling thickness...
Can you be more specific? Is the .060 B.020/W.020/B.020 and is the .040 B.010/W.020/B.010? I personally prefer the wider stuff but that's just my personal preference. I'm an old dude and I find it hard to see the .010 stuff.

Yes - the dimensions you listed are correct.
If it's just a matter of preference, I'll probably just use the 0.060". I just wanted to double-check to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid, or out of the ordinary. The 0.305" wide cut for the purfling just sounded kind of wide to me.

Glen, for the most part, it is what ever looks good to you. The nice thing about building your own guitar is you don't have to make it look traditional, be creative and do something unique.
