I have a question for anyone willing,
I seen a luthier building an acoustic ( U Tube Video ) with the 2 tone bars coming from the base side of the X- brace instead of off the treble side, has anyone here tried this and what are the advantages or disadvantages to doing it this way or am I just missing something?

Re: Tone bars?
Your question recalls a debate I have seen on an older luthier site. The questions in that venue was the concern of a loss of sound quality by converting a righty to a lefty, as opposed to building it as a lefty to begin with. The consensus was that there was zero difference in sound once the conversion was made, and the conclusion was that the benefit of the tone bars being off of one x brace leg was in the assymetry of the instrument, and not which leg it was attached too. Ben's right, it was probably a lefty, but I am guessing it doesn't really matter which orientation you choose.

Re: Tone bars?
remember that the bracing is backwards and gets flipped. To be honest I don't think there would be very much discernible tonal difference.
I can't hear a difference when Paul McCartney played his D 28 lefthanded

I totally agree. And I've converted several for lefties and I can't tell any difference.Ken Hundley wrote:but I am guessing it doesn't really matter which orientation you choose.
