Finish question
I have the bolt on neck sanded and ready, but i left previous laquer on the bottom of the heel because i didnt want to get it out of level..It had a really thick coat of of clear gloss poly and i just sanded enough of the heel to satin it..Will it be ok to leave some laquer on the heel and blend some minwax wipe on gloss to it?

Re: Finish question
Hard to say .. your poly may stick on that.

Re: Finish question
If i take the finish off the heel would a Rubber Sanding Block with 220 used carefully do the trick or carefully by hand till i hit wood?

Re: Finish question
I think you would be better off. Adhesion issues can be a pain

Re: Finish question
Isn't it a general rule that you can lacquer over poly, but not the other way around? Or are you using the term "lacquer" to describe the poly? If it were me, I wouldn't be concerned about going poly over poly as long as you sand it first. You could always test it on the heel...the worst that could happen is you have to sand it all off.

Re: Finish question
I've used that wipe on minwax (in the silver can) a lot and it's pretty forgiving. I think if you sand that poly back to 220 or so, it'll be fine.
Edit: I should add that my experience with it has been on maple Fender necks, and on a Mahogany uke.

Re: Finish question
What if you gave everything a quick coat or two of Bullseye sanding sealer? It sticks to everything, and everything sticks to it?

Re: Finish question
Hey,what do you all use to polish the final coat of wipe on poly? What im doing now is coating with the wipe on then 0000 steel wool between coats, then vacuum the neck, tuner holes, bolt holes to get the wool out, then wipe down with naphtha, then repeat, just did the 4th coat..As for the final buff i have no idea what to do..I could get some hobby sandpaper up to 12000 at hobby lobby, would that work?

Re: Finish question
I depends on how glossy you want it. I like the micro-mesh 1500-12000, but don't go crazy with those lower grits or you'll burn through the finish quickly. I usually go to 12000, then wax and polish. It'll shine up pretty good, but not like having a buffer.
