Fiber Purfling

Post by scamp »

For the guitar I'm working on I need black veneer to make the purfling strip.
In my last project I used Dyed Black Tulipier veneer from B & B Rare Woods which worked well.
Unfortunately they are currently out of stock on this.
Looked at a black wood veneer from Stewmac and they are out of stock as well.
I was reading that some people use black fiber veneer which I can get.
I have read also that it makes a very clean black line however it is sometimes difficult to scrape flush.
Just wondering if anyone out there has experience with fiber and if it's reasonable to work with.

Thanks

This doesn’t answer your question about fiber but I use this stuff and it’s very affordable and works well. They have black and white.

I have been using black fiber to border my abalone purfling for years. It works great. I flood the thing with CA and I always get a nice clean black line when scraping and sanding.

I've also used it as a side black line on the edge of binding and again it works fine. Since I install my bindings using CA again I get a nice clean line.
