That should be a real attractive instrument -- what body shape? Looks like a J185 to me!

I'm embarassed to say that I don't even know what a J185 looks like, but I'm all ears to suggestions. The dimensions are, back set 1/4" X 16" X 24 1/2", sides are 1/4" X 5" X 36", thanks

Wicked looking figure on the cherry especialy the sides. Looking forward to seeing it turned into a guitar.

Here's two J185's I am kitting up right now, Cherry and Curly Maple -- your Cherry slab has far more figure then my Cherry riff material. The J185 is about 16" across the lower bout.

With that rounded butt it must be Gibson-ish.

Gibson for sure -- very popular along with J200's, L00's and the "workhorse" J45's which are a bit larger then the Martin "D"'s and has the "X" shifted forward -- There are those that much prefer association to Gibson rather then Martin or Taylor -- so we (KMG) aim to please!

Ken, thanks for the Gibson lesson. RD thanks for the feedback, as far as bending the sides I don't foresee any problems, I have found a wonderful solution for that, I hire John to do my bending for me. I may not be the sharpest shovel in the shed but I am realistic enough to understand my limitations. At some point I would like to start bending my own sides, I just haven't figured out what (or where) that point is! Thanks Guys!

Maybe try SuperSoft on those sides before bending.

Joe Woodworker the veneer guy indicated the formula for "Supersoft" has been changed and its no longer flammable so I plan to give it a try -- really an inexpensive enchantment to the bending process. Thanks for the reminder!
