Voicing for more bass

Post by TEK 7289 »

I started building this year and now have a few builds under my belt. I am building OM size guitars and I would like my guitars to have a little stronger bass to them. Is there any "secrets" on getting more bass during the voicing?

Realistically, you won't be able to get D35 bass out of an OM, but here are some tips.
Use forward shifted 1/4" braces. Don't scallop the X brace but do scallop the tone bars.
Top, .110 max, 1 3/8" plate, 3 7/8" sound hole.

Do the joinery with great care, the cleaner the fit the closer you are to your goal.
