first build: proud neck block issue
Hello virtual world!
this is my first ever forum post on my first ever guitar build; big moment.
Here's my issue. I'm building a stewmac ooo kit. I glued on the neck block making sure the block was perfectly flush with the back rim edge as this is the side facing up and visible. I assumed that this would make the soundboard side flush as well. when i removed the clamps and flipped it over i was surprised to see that the neck block is about 1mm proud over the rim on the soundboard side. should i simply sand this down when i sand the kerfing or should i just take it off and start over? will 1mm (2mm at most) cause neck set issues down the road?
I should say that the block is squared perfectly w the rim.
thanks in advance to anyone out there for any help. kind of disheartening that i might have already screwed the pooch on the first step.

Re: first build: proud neck block issue
The blocks should be proud as you need to sand in the body geometry , so you are on track and in good shape . Post pictures and we can tell you more. We are here to help

Welcome
I really would suggest that you follow the Stew Mac instructions to the "letter" if you are using their cardboard mold process.

Re: first build: proud neck block issue
This is the instruction directly from the SM 000 assembly manual
Viewed from the side, in cross-section, both
ends of the neck block are flush where they meet the sides,
but are higher than the sides as they taper up toward the
interior of the guitar
an illustration is provided as well -- you may have a problem if the block is upside down --- one side has a steeper angle.

That makes sense Ken, I bet that's what's been done.
If so, will need to unassemble the block and reglue with the correct orientation.

Welcome jg! Of course, we prefer to call you by your real name if you want to share.
Good luck with your build. You'll have a bunch of questions as you go so post away.
