I'm looking for a relatively cheap flat wide bar for sanding.
Something I could use for sanding flat the guitar neck for example ( before putting on the fret board ).
I want something relatively wide and long.
I have a sanding beam for the frets but it's too narrow.
Any suggestions?

That aluminum stock from McMaster-Carr ain't cheap!

If OP has a table saw with a smooth bed, sandpaper attached to the saw table with carpet tape would allow the neck to be sanded against the sandpaper, assuming that the neck was not mounted on the body. Or a nice surface plate....

I have a strip of wide PSA paper on my bench to flatten stuff.

Aluminum (like everything else) has grown expensive. I bought a bar of 6061 flat stock. It was for the cnc I built. The seller was responsive. He has aluminum that isn't listed, so contact him with your exact specs and get a price.

I think this will fit the bill. It's a bit long, but it's easy to cut.

Thanks a lot. This look’s perfect. The aluminum bar stock from Macmaster seemed like a great option but anything at a reasonable length and thickness was a bit on the expensive side. I could use the top of my table saw for just the neck but I also wanted something to sand the neck guitar body interface flat.

Here’s another option.

I got this Al bar a few years ago and it worked well. Bar is 1.5" x 3" x 0.125" x 24" Long.
Cost was about 12 plus $12 shipping = $24. Looks like the price for the bar has now gone up to about $17 + $12 = $29.

It was pretty flat on the sides, but I also smoothed it on my granite slab. I cut it into two pieces for fret work and other things.
