I still use the larger ones too.

I have a few different finger planes. Although I've had fun making some wood ones, I've never made one that was better than my brass or metal ones. I just like the extra heft of the metal. At some point I'd like to find the time to make some hybrid brass/wood planes. Most of mine have been quick and dirty construction to meet a specific need at the time. Nothing as nice as Kevin's. One thing that I like to do is to add a set screw, or really any screw to your liking, to the wedge. It is common construction in many brass finger planes.It makes adjustment so much easier than the hammer tap method for me. I just thread the screw right through the wood wedge and it presses against the blade. Should be visible in the wooden plane below.-Bob
