Sharpening your chisels and hand planes

I spent the afternoon yesterday sharpening my 3 main chisels and some of my bench and block planes.
12 planes in all.
I didn't take a pic of my sharpening set up but I use 3 large oil stones and the Lee Valley jig which holds little chisels up to large plane blades very well. Makes sharpening a pleasure if not still alot of work.
Used a few today and man it sure is nice to have razor sharp tools to use.
Keep um sharp troops!

You've done what I need to do. I'll be doing mine before my next build. I have at least a dozen chisels and several planes.

Its a pretty piece of metal that's dangerous. Dull chisels cause accidents.

I have a friend who used to work for Veritas and whom I pretty much consider to be an expert on planes and plane blade sharpening angles. He is a bit of a fanatic, like he sharpens his blades constantly, long before most of us would think it to be necessary. His planes are a joy to use. On the fanatical end, if he comes into your shop and sees a plane in use that has been set with the sole down, he turns it on it's side. He's got me doing that too. Makes sense not to sharpen a plane and then set it down, blade facing down, where it could possible get nicked, however small the nick.-Bob
