Torrefied tops - Membership Benefit

I'm giving KGF Members first crack at my new supply of torrefied tops. 10 pcs in several sizes have arrived and prices will range from $150 to $275.
Photos will be up in a few days.
An advantage of torrefaction, besides tone, is much greater stability compared to untreated wood. However, torrefacted wood requires longer clamping because the torrefaction process makes the wood moisture resistant, resulting in a longer glue curing time.

Questions regarding torrefied tops...
Noticed on one posting that the age of red spruce used for torrefication was 70 years old .... why would one use tone wood with that much seasoning already on it and then treat it with torrefication?..
How old is this red spruce used in this offering?

Please put me down for one.... will be ordering soon...T

can you point me to that post ? These tops are not 70 yrs old but the process will make them look that old. The treatment will change the structure of the Hemocellous layer. please link that post I would love see it.

Hi John, im thinking of using a torrified top for my next build. Apart from the longer glue curing time :-

1.would there be any issues with spraying torrified tops with water based lacquer?

2. Would CA glue also need a longer curing time?

I don't use CA unless I have to. And no CA doesn't need more time. As for water borne finish , you can use it just like normal.
If your using CA on rosettes I have to ask , why? I use duco cement for most of my rosettes. It I do pearl I still use the duco for the basic rosette and then tite bond on the pearl. CA can stain spruce. If you use a sealer coat under the CA you add a process you really don't need and there is no real benefit .
There are many ways to do this and if you like the CA don't change on my account.
