I used CA on my first kit for the herringbone purfling and plastic binding. The cutter had slipped, so I had to add multiple b&w purfling strips and widen the rebate. I sealed the top with one coat shellac taped on all the strips, with gaps getween, then ran ca into the join.

Duco is very hard to find in the UK and I wasnt sure if the Ruderer plastic glue i had would glue the h/bone fibre and the plastic binding, so used ca - it came out real good.

There is also a weldon glue airplane glue is also usable in a pinch. That looks good and if the result works that is perfect. The herringbone will also set with tite bond. Plastic doesn't set will with tite bond.

In my dim dark past, I used UHU 'Hart' glue for tasks that I'd used Duco cement for, and I don't recall seeing much of a difference. Perhaps that is more available in the UK.

I use duco cement for most of my rosettes. It I do pearl I still use the duco for the basic rosette and then tite bond on the pearl.

Eleven years after your post I have to ask why duco cement?

Hi.

Duco cement gives adequate working time, is clear, and will glue all materials. For instance, titebond won't glue anything but wood or wood byproducts. CA glue will eventually discolor spruce unless the spruce has a finish applied first, plus there's no working time.

I like Duco for rossettes too. It has the best working time for me.
