I'm in the process of ordering the luthier disks and sandpaper from Blues Creek and was wondering what grit sandpaper I should get? At $20 a pop I want to make sure I get the proper grit.

Thanks,
Ed

I'm not sure what grit the luthier I'm building my guitar with uses, but it's pretty coarse -- #60 or #80, I'd guess. My impression is that the function of the disk is to remove material, not to give a fine finish. If you're sanding braces to get the proper radius, for instance, the surface left by #60 grit is probably going to be good enough. Or you can finish-sand once you get the radius correct.

60 is aggressive
80 is what I use but it can be aggressive when roughing in sides.
100 is what I started with , it isn't as aggressive and may be perfect for you.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll go with 100 grit to start off with. How long do these disks last? Will I need to get a new disk for each guitar I build?

I replaced one in 5 years that was about 150 guitar rims

Oh, that's very nice to hear. I don't feel so bad about paying $20 per disk if that's the case. Thanks!
