Something that is real nifty about it is that is is actually two seperate parts, inlay router base and circle cutter jig. Two screws marries the unit as a circle cutter, remove the two screws and it's back to an inlay router base.

Newb question:

Just out of curiosity... it looks like your purfling is laid out also. Is it possible to route that out at this stage also?

You need to do the actual sizing first. Once the top is on the guitar and you trim it to fit the side , then you do the purfling and binding channels. All cutters for purfling locate off the guitar side so you need to have the plate attached to the guitar first.

Glen, I think what you are seeing is the overhang that I allowed. I first draw a line around the template and then another line about 1/4" outside of that to allow for overhang to be trimmed off after closing the box and then I route the binding/purfling channels. Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding you.
The way that I do this is to put a washer against the edge of the template, put a pencil on the inside edge of the washer and just roll it around the template.

I'm still learning the basics and both of your posts make perfect sense to me. In the tons of reading I've done lately, I'd forgotten that it's all relative to the sides after assembly.

David - thanks for the washer tip on marking the side... that'll come in handy. Hopefully my kit from John will get here soon and I can get started on my first!
