That's great advice, MaineGeezer. Thank you kindly.

I could make templates quick 'n dirty using the contour gauge and light 1/8" plywood at three or so stations along my neck, and use them while carving. The billet is $100, so I won't be getting in a hurry to finish the carve.

If I had better sense, I'd model the neck in 3D and have it carved with a CNC, but, I don't, so I won't.

This guy https://www.kappi.com/blog/setups/ has plans for a neck routing fixture that doesn't look too difficult to make. It's designed for electric guitar necks though (i.e. basically flat boards with no heel) and adapting it to work with acoustic necks might be a problem.

That is very interesting. I'd settle for a dovetail jig to duplicate Martin's joint.

I'm making my own plans, as Diane suggested. I just don't trust what I'm finding on the interwebs. I've yet to find a flat scan or photo of a tracing or portrait, so I may have to do some interpolation.

A thank-you to John Hall. I've spent my morning trying to order, by piece, a pre-War rosette for this new build. I stumbled on a thread on UMGF stating that John sells one. I wish I'd looked on his site first! If anyone else reading this is looking for one: https://bluescreekguitars.com/product/1 ... 8-rosette/

He also has pre-bent herringbone purfling and the zig-zag backstrip.

I spent a lot of time looking for these strips as well. The big suppliers have some but they are a bit $$ especially if you want the celluloid strips in the center as you get $30 hazmat shipping charges. I tend to make my own wooden rosettes now but used the John's vintage 28 rosette on my last build. This has his herringbone and back strip as well.
I still use my stewmac Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig for the dremel as it works just fine but have always wanted to upgrade to a circle cutter that will hold my rigid router.

I got this jig that fits a Ridgid router, but adapted it to a Dewalt 20V. Worked good for a decent price. A little fiddly to adjust at first. Rosettes fit great! https://www.jsbguitars.com/shop/guitar- ... ttachment/

I've had the same jig for years. It works well enough. I'm using a Milescraft small circle cutter. I find it to be more accurate, but it takes longer to set up.
