Think the Hormigo set below would be ok for building a guitar? Think the sides would bend ok?

From RC Tonewood site:

Hormigo Botanical Name: (Platymiscium Dimorpandrun) The Hormigo is a tree that grows in humid forest zones. It is used commonly to make musical instruments, such as the keys of the marimba. Its wood is reddish with clear pigmentation, it is strong and compacted, durable and beautiful sounding when struck. It grows in Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. We are amazed with the beauty of this wood. It is sometimes called "the wood that sings".

It looks way cool. I have no knowledge about it though.

Beautiful wood! I wouldn't hesitate to try it, but I like the unconventional.

I just used Ovankol back and sides which was hard enough to bend but sounds amazing so I would go for this if I was in your shoes --but I like to take a chance sometimes. Good luck with it.

That is pretty sweet stuff Darryl, I would go for it. Can't be too tough to bend.

Well, I went for it but didn't win the auction. That's bad enough but earlier I missed out on a less figured but nice QS set. I offered plenty to buy the set but I made the offer from my phone in the last 30 sec and the auction expired before it updated. Oh well.

Darryl,
Have you seen this Hormigo set from Waldron?

No, I haven't seen that set. It's pretty but those flat sawn sides have me leary. Even the back is mostly flat sawn.

Finally scored a set of Hormigo in an auction. It's not as pretty as some of the Hormigo sets I've seen.......but the sides are quartersawn and the back is quartered and drifts off to rift/flat near the outside edge. Overall, I'm happy to get a set and try it. I may use it when I build my first "Baby Dred" if it lives up to expectations. Here is a pic:
