Okay, I do Google searches all the time, and I do find some sources for billets of walnut, etc for resawing, but the choices are not always the greatest, and there are not a lot of sources that come up.
Where do you guys who have been resawing your own back and sides been getting your wood? Local yards, over the net?
I do not have a good local source. There is one small place about 45 miles away that carries exotics and domestics, but much of it is not quarter sawn.
Anyway, if you care to share your sources, please do so here.
Thanks.
Kevin

Well there see, I have not seen anything really good for guitars at Cooks, but then they don't show you pictures of every board they are selling.
I bought a big board of Cocobolo from them years ago and cut it up for knife handles, but it was one that had pics of both sides.
I'll take a look at the others too. My main interest is in Walnut and African Mahogany.
Thanks John.

I think the best value is in larger boards. The problem is, if you have to pay to ship them, the shipping costs can quickly eat up your savings.
I suggest trying to find local wood suppliers. Most of them cater to cabinet and furniture builders, and you can sometimes find the best deals on the figured woods. Of course if you are buying larger billets, you have to be on top of your game for picking out the best woods for building (structurally and aesthetically), and there will be quite a bit of waste.

For example. I bought a hunk of really nice cocobolo for $150.00. I got three sets of backs and sides out of it. 16.5" wide. That's $50.00 per set.
I just bought a piece of Macassar Ebony for $250.00 which I will get three sets of 16" backs and sides. That's $83.00 per set.
That's roughly 1/4 the regular price. No brainer.
