I have a set of Honduran Mahogany coming from RC Tonewoods. Can someone give me an approx. thickness to ask for in both the back and the sides?
Just a good ball park. I can thin it a bit if I need to when I get it.
They're gonna ship soon, so I could sure use some help.
Thanks all,
Bob

Oh, here's the set.

WOW!

I'll leave the thickness question to the experts, but I'm afraid there are some 'issues' with that would and I really think you should have Bob drop ship it to me, so I can um.. check it out... you know.. to make sure it will make a good guitar.. before you make a terrible terrible mistake... =)

sides .090 +/- .005
back .105 to .110
when you sand them in the finish cycle you want them to be heavier than .080 side and .095 back.

Thanks Jim for the offer. Too late to change the shipping, but if I run into any problems, I'll get in touch with you.
John, much appreciated. I don't have a thickness sander, so it'll help having them thinner than they normally ship.
I don't have a bender yet either, but that may change.
Much appreciated guys.

That is a pretty nice set Bob. An Ebay buy?
I've seen some of his sets like this. I have a very nice EIR set arriving Friday from the Zootman.
That will make a sweet guitar.

Beautiful mahogany!

John (or anyone else), would your recommendation for back or side thickness change if he were building a 00 instead of a dreadnaught? I'm about to thickness a set of Cuban Mahogany for a 00 is why I ask.

I got the set off RC Tonewoods web site. There had been a set of Cocobolo that I wanted, but got sold before I got paid, so I go back from time to time and re-visit what could have been!! Then I just went thru the species and found this set. There was not another one nearly as good, so I jumped. Didn't wanna have to re-visit another set.
If anyone has Cocobolo set 0907_005, I'll trade for this Honduran Hog!!
The reason I started the thread was that I had asked them if they would thin it, and when they said yes, give us your specs, I was like uh, uh, uh, help!

Bob reads and posts here. It would have been hilarious if he had responded to your post with recommended thicknesses, just so you could in turn mail the info back to him =)

HA HA HA it would have been, Jim.
Psst, Zootman, if you're listening, get some more of that Coco!! Just like that COCO_0907_005.
Anyone else interested, here's the link to it, but it's gone. :(
