So I'm thinking about making some purflings and classical'ish rosettes from scratch, and was wondering where I might get some good veneers to experiment with.

I'm mostly looking for natural wood and possibly even burl veneer, but might try some subtle colored tints just to see what happens.

I noticed some on the shelf at Rockler in Seattle the other day, but they were pretty banged up, and most were too short for guitar use.

I'm hoping Rick (runningdog) will chime in here, as I know he has a nice stash.

Anyone else know where I might look?

Then I saw a video of John Bogdanovich making wheat and purflings, and now I'm keen to give it a try (with something simple)...

For rosettes RC tonewoods sells rosette squares and even offer package deals for this stuff, If you call them they might be able to put together some purf/binding deals to match.

I'll definitely investigate the rosette squares from Bob.

I'm still interested in sheets of various types of veneers for laminating into my own herringbone and wheat patterns and such. It's just a morbid curiosity that I'll probably regret trying, but that's what I'm all about.

Been using stuff from "Constantine's" naturals, domestics, dyed you name it, for as long as I can remember -- "Joe Woodworker" has some nice stuff too

+1 for Constantine's. You can order by the foot so you can get long lengths.

I buy veneers from my local exotic lumber yard (Robert's plywood). They have good prices and I can pick through everything until I find exactly what I want.
