What is a quality and good bang for the buck tuner for a slothead steel string? Prefer one that looks nice of course. Appreciate your thoughts.

I got a real nice set of gold grover sta-tites for $53 I think - I'll see if I can dig up the paperwork.
edit - Gotoh is what I meant. Gold ones, there is a selection here:

edit #2 - see my post below. Sta-tites are the ones I meant. Still recovering from the food poisoning I guess, or I'm getting senile, or a hellacious combination of the two :-)

I put Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite Slotted Peghead Machines on my 000-12fret. they work and look great; and at $41 from StewMac, they're a bargain!

I've read good things about the stewmac golden age tuners and have a set for my current project. I like the looks but that is subjective you know... I got the 2501.

I assume the styling is similar to the standard Grover Statites? I used these on my first build.
Just a comment, it took me a while to get used to using an 18:1 ratio tuner. Had to learn to twist much more than I'm used to. It was an annoyance at first but now I'm used to it. Am I the only one that thinks this may be a little too much of a good thing?
