back to the body...

I routed all my channels with a bearing-guided setup. Have to take pics of that sometime. here we are gluing in the purfs, binding will come next. I was a little concerned about getting this wide of a purfling tight if I glued it up with the bindings in one procedure.

here it is after the tape is pulled,

and gluing one of the back bindings in.

My rubberband rope is falling apart, so I will look for some other way to band the body during binding.

I never used this method , I just use the tape . Martin used to use a wrap and they stopped and allow the tape to do the clamping . If you do want to continue wrapping you can use any cloth ribbon .

75' of heavy duty twill tape should do the trick.

Darren,
That purfling looks interesting. Can you give a closeup of it?
I am doing the same right now on my build, only using just BWB purfling, and I for goed the wrap this time. Just tape did the trick.

It looks like the walnut/maple rope that Grizzly sells.

I think this is a standard rope purfling that is available from other places. I'm pretty sure Gurian makes it.

Well,
When I did the top binding I used tape only and went slow, didn't need the rubberbands. The back though, needed a little encouragement. We've been over this before, if I did a better job bending the binding it would require less force...and I'm working on that.

Kevin, Jim, it probably is the same rope purfling, though I got it at lmi. It bends nicely, with just a little dry heat.

I also got the mortise routed, using a pretty simple fixture that works with my laminate trimmer loaded up with a 5/8ths straight bit.

the top looks like a mess here, because I've just scraped the bindings down and there are areas where the shellac has been scraped and not scraped.. anyway I feel like I need to apologize for it, even though I know you all understand. :)

Little bit more sanding and the body will be ready for finish prep.

Nice job on the mortise. I'm still putting a mortise in the block before I glue it in, like the kits. Not ready to take the router to my body yet!! I hear you on the binding....bending it by hand is a little difficult to get it just right.
I was giving much thought today about making a bending machine.
