Thanks Ken,

That guitar is gorgeous. I'm still undecided, but I won't start building until the weekend. Hopefully I'll know by then.

Overall my plan is a 12-fret Taylor-style Grand Concert. My first instrinct was to make it with only a large side port, no sound hole. But I'm not sure now. I've heard that can change the sound quite dramatically, maybe like you've described. Which may not be bad on a smaller bodied guitar.

I'll post a build thread as I get it up and going.

Slowly but surely, my friend. I haven't even started the neck. I want to finish the mango first. Did you notice the signature inthe soundboard of the mango? May of 2009? Makes me sick, I started so many projects then and still aren't close to finishing them. Been a tough couple years for hobbies. Now my son wants me to help him build an electric. Will be fun, he's done a couple of wood projects lately, but he has less patience than I do unless its legos. One way or the other, we'll giterdone.

So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

A lego guitar...hmmm. I have so many ideas of guitars that I want to build it would take an entire notebook to keep a record of them (ideas). I have been able (so far) to resist starting too many at the same time, I hate having a bunch of uncompleted projects laying around, it makes me crazy (well really I am crazy but you know what i mean). About to wrap up fatso and no. 2 is off and running... well maybe walking.

Just make sure you close the box and trim the excess before you cut the sound hole. I just found out the hard way. The bearing on the end of the flush cutter wont do you any good when there is nothing on the side for it to ride against.

Luckily, I caught my mistake before I went all the way through the side and into the kerfing. Now I just need to graph some wood in and do a little bit of sanding before I trim it away again for the binding.
