Chisels

Post by ruby@magpage.com »

Today I was in an old guy's basement and bought a few items. I found three chisels that I bought with budding luthiers in mind. I gave all 3 of them a fresh 25° grind. See the first shot

The narrow one on the left and top is a Buck Brothers tang chisel from pre-WWI that is 1/4" wide and 11-1/2" long. Nice feel to the original handle, good shape - $14

The other two are from Witherby socket chisels, between the wars, and are probably a pair that have always been together. These are as good as American chisels get. The narrower one is 5/16" and over a foot long. The back of the blade has a very minor rash near the tip. It has a replacement handle with a leather washer on top - $14

The wider one is 3/8", also over a foot long, with the original handle missing a piece that will not hurt function and does not feel bad in the hand - see the last shot - $16
