Okay Kevin, this one shouldn't be too difficult and it even comes with a hint. This is a true Dalbergia. It's really not as red as the second picture shows and a little more pink than the first pictire

I'm with Brian on this one...the color descriptors were the hint as well.

Brian our resident wood expert is absolutely right. I felt that I had to give some descriptors because to color in the photos just wasn't a good representation of what the piece actually looked like, it's actually a gorgeous sample of Tulipwood. Here's what I know about it. It is not to be cofused with American Tulipwood commonly referred to as Tulip Poplar or Yellow Poplar. This true Rosewood is commonly referred to as Brazilian Tulipwood for obvious reasons. At one time it was misclassified as Dalbergia Frutescens and sometimes still is referred to as such. The tree generally doesn't grow very big, in fact most living trees are considered more of a bush rather than a tree which is why large boards are uncommon. Please feel free to share any factoids or experiences that you have with Tulipwood.

Sorry, no free T-Shirt on this one, however I have a sample of wood that I will post in the near future that is so difficult to identify that a prize will be awarded to anyone who is able to ID it!!!
