GUITAR CASES

Post by Kevin Sjostrand »

Okay, I was lazy. We may have covered this in the past, but I didn't look in the archives.
I'm looking for a flight case for the OM I'm building. The dimensions are pretty much standard Martin OM 14 fret.

I have compared what I have with what the specs are on this case, and it looks like it will fit perfectly.
Does anyone have experience using this case for an OM?

What do you guys do for your OM and OOO cases? It is hard to find a case that states it is for these sizes of steel string guitars.

Thanks for your input.

I used the TKL Concept 2.9 Series case for a 000. It's a thermo plastic case. It's just like the thermo plastic cases Martin uses but doesn't have the Martin logo on the side. I just looked and they don't show any 000 case on their website for some reason.......but I bought one earlier this year so they make them. I was able to buy it wholesale for about $100 plus $30 or $35 shipping (list price is $239.95, the equivalent Martin case can be bought for $160 plus shipping).

Not sure what you are expecting in a "flight" case. Some are extremelly durable and expensive.

The Gator case referenced is $110, free shipping, no tax on Amazon. I bought one of these for a dred and they are excellent cases, and will lock but are TSA approved. A bit sturdier than the TLK cases I normally buy.
I'll check that one you mentioned out for dimensions and see how it compares to this Gator case.

The Gator case arrived, and this OM does not fit in it. The waist area is not in the correct place, and the lower bout was probably going to be too tight, so I sent it back today.
I am now looking at the SKB-000 case. It looks right, and is going for $139.99 everywhere with free shipping. Almost snagged one today for under $108, but there was only one and it was gone before I could push the button.

OK, I have just finished one of KMG's OOO/OM deep body kits and the depth is 4 and 1/2". Lower bout is 15" wide. Who out there has built this kit and bought a case that this guitar will fit?
Thanks

I used the KMG 000 form to build my first guitar so I assume it's the same size as yours. I used a standard TKL 000 case and it fit fine. More detail on which case I used is given in a post above. I think the case mfgs try to size and shape the cases where about any mfgs body will fit (assuming the same body......for example most any mfgs 000 will fit their 000 case).
