Summer Build Time........

Anyone else struggling to get time to build during the summer months???

I sure am. We should finish up a lot of back yard work today. We opened up a closed-in back porch and converted it to a covered patio supported by 4 posts. Did a little brick work around the bottom of the posts and enclosed the support beams around the perimeter of the roof with cedar. We poured 1585 sq ft of concrete around the existing concrete surrounding our small pool and put up a new wood, privacy fence on 2 sides and a 4ft metal fence around the other side which also goes around the new covered patio so it's all one large, enclosed area (mandatory to have a fence around a pool). We added aluminum sofits around the porch, gutters, and cut a section out of the old concrete for a new, grate covered drain. Should finish up the dirt work in the back yard today so everything will drain properly. Also, today we have to install external drains with a popup outside the concrete that connects to the drain in the concrete and the pool filter waste discharge. So far we've hauled off 4 dump trucks full of either old fencing or top soil with another going out today (hopefully just one).

Had a training conference/vacation down in Orlando earlier in the summer that the whole family tagged along on and that lasted 1 1/2 weeks. In-laws came to visit for a week before the 4th of July. Have to go back to Florida in Aug. for a nephew's wedding.

Wow, it never ends! Did I mention putting in a garden earlier? That I keep 2 of our 4 acres mowed? Black berries are ripe right now and need to be picked........the shop is a mess and needs a makeover........I have an old dog pen around 2 sides of the pole barn that needs to be taken down where I can mow there.........the wood stack along my shop needs to be moved to the area vacated by the old dog pen.......the pile of leftover gravel from the concrete pour needs to be spread out inside the pole barn.......have a dead tree beside the shop that needs to be cut down......I have over 60 nesting pairs of purple martins in the back yard and the little ones are about to fledge and some are jumping early so every day I return 3 or 4 babies to the nest.......started planting a few plants around the perimeter of the new fence last night with more to come.......need a yard sale to get rid of accumulation in the garage and shop (all kinds of radio controlled airplanes and equipment in the shop from a former hobby that need to go).......my 15 year old daughter is working as a life guard at the city Aquatic Center but she isn't old enough to drive so we constantly shuttle her back and fourth.......I just fixed a problem with the washing machine drain........I need to finish the trim work in the kitchen from a previous remodel project.......the concrete between the brick work on the chimney needs to be sealed as it leaks when raining with the wind blowing.......I need to build a pergola on the new concrete beside the pool.......the camper rood needs to be resealed and the door replaced.......

Thank the good Lord we sold the horses! Did I mention we have a 15 year old daughter (going on 24) and freakish high school boys are magically showing up at my house???

You plumb tuckered me out. I think I need a nice day off up at Mt. Ashland to enjoy nature and good coffee and a good book just so I can process what you just wrote! :-)

Too bad your not very busy!!! What I find hard about guitar building in the summer is the heat. My shop has a window unit, but with no ceiling in the shop the heat just dumps down and the AC just can't keep up. It's nice early in the morning but starts to heat up rather quickly. Oh yeah, did I mention the humidity here in south Louisiana in the summer? Don't get me started on that! Oh yeah, about those teenage boys showing up, you left one thing off your to do list: POLISH UP THE OLE SHOTGUN!!!

Yup. Stopped on my drive home for lunch. Decided to check in. Be home tonight and back to my regular shenanigans shortly thereafter.
