Wonderful Morning
Wonderful Morning
..just filling a few small binding gaps, relaxed, listening to Sierra Hull, Alison Krause, Uncle Earl and David Grier.

Re: Wonderful Morning
Noone beats Alison (except kd lang, a different singer entirely) but the gal in Uncle Earl sounds a lot like her.

Re: Wonderful Morning
Oh yeah. Ricky Skaggs can pick it too.
Speaking of which, there are no end of fingerstlye players that have great recordings out there; the studios really know how to capture all the nuance of an unamplified guitar.
EXCEPT when it comes to flat-pickers! Waiting for a Tony Rice solo, then barely being able to pick it out of the mix, is disappointing, it should be right up front.
Do you know of any solo - I mean one man one guitar, that's it- FLAT pickers? David Grier does some things, Michael Hedges actually did some amazing flat pick work solo - but I would like to know of some others.

Re: Wonderful Morning
not many flat pickers that can do what fingerpickers can . Both can be nose pickers

Re: Wonderful Morning
Yes, but it can hurt to nose pick when you forget you are wearing aluminum finger picks. So, at least, I have heard :-)

Re: Wonderful Morning
Jimmy Wahlsteen does a hybrid style - not sure if that qualifies - check out Rapid Eye Movement. most of his studio stuff is several tracks of himself, but he can bring it solo/live as well.

Re: Wonderful Morning
I am not really a bluegrass person, but my time in the shop is usually filled with the sounds of Phil Keaggy.....it just amazes me!
I know I am more productive when I have great music playing in the background, sort of gets me into a groove.

I've seen Phil perform a couple of times, he is unique. He doesn't do anything that others cannot, but he creates the actual music, and his love of God shines through.
