Sean,
I stumbled on this review of the Motorola Xoom tablets. Thought you might be interested

Note that I'm not necessarily endorsing them (I don't know much about them).

Re: iPad vs Android
I ended up getting the Toshiba Thrive. It connects through WiFi or Bluetooth, but no 3G or 4G. I am holding off until I get a phone with teathering. I have been using my tablet every day. It is quite handy. I was afraid I would not use it so much because it is impossible for coding and I thought I would get all my Internet surfing done while at a PC. I was wrong. I am really happy with the Toshiba Thrive and the full size USB port and bluetooth capabilities. It currently is running Android Honeycomb. I haven't looked into Ice Cream Sandwich yet, but I'm not sure if it can be upgraded. I figured I'd enjoy how much I like it before messing it up with an upgrade.
Jim,
Thank you for all your knowledge. It lead me to what I feel was the best decision for me. I am really pleased with the tablet I bought.

Re: iPad vs Android
I have been happy with the Kindle Fire...use it every day as well. My son just won an ipad2 at a bingo tournament (what a great prize for an 8 year old, huh?) and we have been getting used to that as well. They can each do things differently, but both are very capable.
