Until I say the news last night I thought the idea of the subway systems filling with water was a "Sci/Fi " concept -- holy crap!! You gals and gals out there be careful.

Worst is past us. Got about 5" rain and still drizzling and an occasional gust. Good news is it filled up the pond.

The kids, wife and I were just down in Virginia Beach for vacation and to visit my mother. We had plans to extend our stay by another day but by Thursday night I decided that we'd leave on time Friday morning. Good thing we did, too. Traffic was bad but we got home without any incident.

Meanwhile, my mother moved down there about 6 years ago and I couldn't talk her into riding back with us for a few days. Some may call her a free spirit but I just call her stubborn. I've been keeping tabs on her but part of me regrets not bipping her over the head and tossing her into our minivan for the 8 hour trip back to Pittsburgh where we're now enjoying partly sunny skies.

Tim, if my reasoning isn't totally out of whack (it usually is) the fact that you are posting means that ya'll didn't lose power, that's always a good thing! Thanks for the good news (that you and yours are safe)!

I'm in Bergen County, 15 miles west of the Geo Wash Bridge. Heavy rain here for the past hour but not much wind. All gutters cleaned out today and extensions attached to leaders that will drop the rain at least 12' from the house foundation. New submersible sump pump which I hope will remain in its box. So far so good in the basement, not a sign of water. Tornado warnings for the Metro area have been issued. It's a given that there will be flooding from local rivers. Unfortunately, the storm's northward movement has slowed from 30MPH to 16MPH, upping the total rainfall prediction from a max of 10" to a max of 15".

Still have power, but there are about 500,000 customers just east of us without. It's gonna be mess to wake up to.

Just last week? Good going - you could have had a real mess otherwise.
