Happy Memorial Day.
I just want to say THANK YOU to all of you guys who have served our country in the military, giving of yourselves to protect our freedom.
You are very appreciated, whoever you are.
Let us know how, where and when you served!
I just missed the Vietnam war by the skin of my teeth (I thought I was lucky at the time), so I am not a vet.
Lets hear from you VETS!
Kevin

Thanks Kevin and John.
I served for three years in the Army as a Combat Engineer 1965-1968. I helped protect Germany from the thousands of Russian tanks which could pour through the Fulda Gap.
Didn't happen I'm happy to say.
On this day I remember my uncles who died in WW2 and my friends who died in Vietnam.
War sucks!!!

Re: Happy Memorial Day.
Three of my uncles served in WWII. My dad was 13 years younger than his closest sibling so wasn't drafted (and I think they tried to leave one male home to carry on the family name when they could). Only one was injured and he was injured twice. First time shot through his helmet in France. Later, on the Rhine river in Germany his gunnermate was shot. Othell (my uncle) was a great marksmen and this guy fed ammo into his machine gun. Othell was trying to carry him to back to the "hospital" behind the lines when they heard a bomb coming in. He dove into a nearby building for cover and the bomb hit the building blowing shrapnel (pieces of brick, metal, whatever) all in the back of his legs and lower back. One of Othell's high school buddies was drafted the same day he was. They went through boot camp together, were in the same unit, and fought side by side in battle on many occasions. One day they were eating lunch and Othell didn't have a spoon to eat his meal. After his buddy finished eating Othell asked if he could borrow his spoon and the guy stuck out his hand offering the spoon to Othell. Othell readhed out and the moment he took hold of the spoon and before his buddy had let go.........his buddy was shot through the head. To this day Othell still has that spoon.
Slacker......
Re: Happy Memorial Day.
I served for 3 years, but I really think this Day is about those that paid the ultimate price, usually at a young age.
War is the biggest blight on mankind. Until all men have peace in their hearts, lust and greed and the need for power will drive the engines of destruction, as has been the case from the beginning. And it is not the power brokers or the elite that pay the price for their depravity, it is our neighbor on the front line, or the guy we're shooting at who is just as scared as we are, or the 100,000 men women and children who are gone - Poof! - in an atomic instant that pay for the greed of others.
So for me, Memorial day is one of the saddest. It is a testament, the wrong kind, to what Man is capable of. And a call for me to search my own conscience, to see if I am living peace out in my life.
