Didn’t know where to post this?

Post by RepairmanSC »

I’m kind of new to this forum stuff. So bear with me on my sure to be upcoming mistakes.
I built my first guitar when I was 13 (1978). I’ve been doing repair and restoration work off and on since then. I’ve never built a kit before but at some point I’ve built every part of a guitar (as well as other instruments).
I’ve had people approach me for “builds” but I wasn’t interested. Repairs always kept me busy enough. My repair work has allowed me to play some nice instruments over the years and that’s what it was all about.
Anyway, I bought Mr. Cory’s book and started looking through this forum and man I’ve changed my mind. What you guys have going here is great!!!

Welcome to the club! I have seen a couple of posts from you though, but I never said welcome.
So Welcome! Now, what type of guitar are you going to be building?

I would like to welcome you to the forum also, as I was so warmly welcomed myself! I had never belonged to, participated in, or even ever visited a forum before (I am new to the forum also). I have just begun to assemble (be careful how you use the word "build") my first guitar and the wealth of information that I have gained from here is priceless. There are a great bunch of folks here that are willing to share thier experience, strength, and hope with anyone and everyone and seem to have a genuine passion for what they do. I will also say to "heed" Johns warning about this being addictive, I've barely begun my first and I already have illusions of grandeur (or should I say dillusions) of all kinds of other guitars I "want" to build. Different body shapes, different wood combinations, rosettes, binding/purfling, and on, and on... What type of kit are you looking at and who do you intend to get it from? (some of us around here are a little more than partial to a couple of suppliers in particular) Clue: Scroll up and down the far left-hand side of any page of this forum!

Again welcome and have fun,
David L

Thanks Mr. Hall I’ve been looking over your site. WOW.
I didn’t know you could buy a lot of this stuff. My training was very old school. I know it’s addictive. I’ve had GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) for years.

Thanks for the welcome David L. I don’t know what I ‘m going to “build” but the delusions have already started.

Let me add to the welcomes also, ReparimanSC. I started here a little over a year ago and am finishing #2 (it don't seem to wanna be finished), and have started #3. There's some great folks here and some great advice. With your background, you'll be cookin' in no time.
BTW, we LOVE pics.
Best of luck,
Bob
