Sale at Harbor Freight

Post by Jim_H »

Was perusing their latest sale flyer and saw a couple of things I thought I'd share.

A lot of the HF stuff is junk. But sometimes 'junk' is just what the Dr. ordered.

Utility scissors for .99 cents. These things are great for cutting up sandpaper and other stuff that will ruin the 'good' scissors.

A hundred single edge razor blades for $2.99 - make great scrapers for small tight areas, glue cleanup, etc...

I think they are still having a special $6.99 flat rate shipping deal too... might be a good time to stock up on stuff.

I really like HF for that kind of stuff.
I ran across a liste of HF 'gems' on a woodworking site:

Yeah, I like to visit our HF as they have so many things no one else keeps in stock. Not saying it's the best but I bought a magnifying headset with diffent magnification lenses there for doing inlay. It made my eyes hurt after awhile.......but possibly anyone's set would have.

I've also bought clamps there, a long, flexible cable with a button on one end and "fingers" on the other end that I used to fish a broken off gas line out of a riding lawn mower tank, replacement sandpaper for my 12" disk sander (no one else had this locally), digital scale that I use to mix epoxy or weigh bridges (has 1/10 gram resolution on the display), a cheap clamp I can be placed on or removed from my guitar building platform quickly, pipe clamps to make a guitar body clamp like is shown in Bill Cory's manual, odd ball sized drill bits, etc. They even have punches with numerals/letters on the end for putting your name in wood etc. I'm reluctant to purchase precision equipment there but for odd ball things you rarely need or where precision isn't required (clamps etc.), it's nice to have a low cost option that has a lot of off beat stuff in-stock.

Here is a neat item I seen on the list posted above. A solar panel with 12V output that will keep your old truck, 4-wheeler, or lawn mower battery charged up over the winter while not in use! I paid twice this amount for one that plugs into a 110V elecrical outlet......and then have to pay for the electricity to keep the battery on my 4-wheeler charged!

Yea, there are lots of things to buy there. There is a HF store about a block from my office. I get their sales flyers and wander through there at lunch once in a while. Needless to say I never run out of stuff like razor blades, nitrile gloves, etc...

I don't really need another workbench, but I've been tempted to pick this up just because it's cheap ($160), and well, like clamps, you can never have enough workbenches :p

i haven't gone over and leaned on it yet, so I dunno how sturdy it is (I suppose it could be re-inforced).
