Gibson acoustic body specs

Post by deadedith »

Looking for a source that gives upper bout-waist-lower bout and body length specs for roundshoulder Gibsons. J series, specifically.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Dave. Here's a site where you can download the plans online. It also lists the specs. http://ultimate-guitar-building.com/j45 ... tar-plans/

Dave,
I see you got the slope shoulder bug. I knew it would happen after your crafted the Ditson.

Spot on, Woody!
I'm planning on Ditsons for the next year or so. I was comparing body specs from Gibson, Larrivee, Santa Cruz just to see where the differences are - the sign of an addict, I suppose.

Aside from the slope shoulders the J45's differ from the Martin "D's" in that they all have the "X" forward, are 16" wide and most notably have a very short scale length of 24.75 (although some called 24.75 are actually 24.625")

I was thinking of using an outside mold for the next Ditson, just for the experience - the mega mold (KMG) does an excellent job and I have no actual need for anything else, but I get curious about various methods. So I did compare John's dimensions for a mold for a slope dred (BluesCreek) with Waldron's and Ken's, to see which was closest to the body style by Dana Bourgeois, which is my model. All were pretty close, the main difference, and the one that makes Dana's a little 'sexier' to my eye, is the waist measurement. Dana's is at 10 1/4, with the others ranging from 10 1/2 to 11 inches. It's a small aesthetic point that to my eye makes a difference, but not enough to change my entire method over.
Fun!
