CF Martin Event

Post by Danl8 »

I got invited to a May 17 event in Nazareth. Here are a couple of pics that might be of interest: the insides of a new guitar, some glorious lumber and Chris' collection of selected guitars for sound demonstrations. I got a couple of bracing pics as the body was being passed around. Interesting what they are doing with the braces to reduce mass without reductions in strength.

Neat. Thanks for sharing. The new braces are interesting for sure. I imagine they work as intended which is to reduce mass and allow the body to vibrate more without instability. However, I am still not convinced that I like them but will have to wait till I play one of these instruments before making that call right?

the brace thing has been done in the past
I don't think they are or will catch on Personally I wish they would fix the other issues like loose binding

I got the impression the brace thing was a reaction to what other high-end manufacturers are doing. They didn't admit to that, of course. John, what do you think is the root cause of the binding issues you are seeing?

Martin is concerned with the VOCs and they stopped using the glue they should be. I heard they tried
tite bond 3
fish glue
roo glue
rubber cement
canopy glue

what they are using now I have no idea but I know the issue is better but not resolved. They can no longer get ivroid in 60 in length and this and the tortoise seem to be the biggest ones as they shrink more.

Now they are using an antique white for the ivroid . I hope its soon resolved The worse of it was into the 20s so not as much right now.

I think the supplier is busting hump to find a solution
