spray booth
got my shed to make the spray booth
this is 5 1/2 by 8 foot in a 12 foot by 20 foot . I have both the shed and the spray room insulated
I have 2 shop lites converted to LED lights. I am now designing a down draft spray booth and VOC vent . We
are all confined in PA so I have time to get this running and will post pics. Anyone that has advice feel free to
add. I had a man from Cornell University come here and we had brainstormed .
Hope we all get through this corona threat safe and sound

Re: spray booth
I'm envious! I bought a spray tent - https://www.amazon.ca/HomeRight-C900038 ... 146&sr=8-1 - when it was on sale but have not even set it up yet. I will use it outside in better weather. I have a turntable made for a soapstone carver, on casters, that I think will allow me to do a guitar comfortably. But it will be second best to a purpose-built spray booth. I am interested to know what safety provisions you have made, and how to incorporate some of those into a small-scale setup like mine. And the public health situation has given me more time for lutherie - a small silver lining.

Re: spray booth
I am liking your new spray booth John! Unfortunately where I live the HOA rules would not permit me to do the venting and such required, so I'll just have to admire yours from a distance.
I do hope to try some water based spraying in the near future, but I'll have to wait until the humidity and the pollen are under control.
Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Re: spray booth
all done and sprayed my first body and neck. This is so efficient I can't smell the lacquer unless I shut down the fan.

Re: spray booth
Looks interesting, John. Are you spraying waterbase only? What are you using to drive the exhaust?

Re: spray booth
I am spraying Nitro at this point
I found induction motored 8 in duct fans that move 460 cfm. I key is the air curtain design keeps the air exchange up to lessen and hazard, the 4 inch fans will be ducted to the floor and a curing cabinet where I can store the bodies to speed the curing process.
My friend helped me design this. Eldrid Kline worked at Cornell and had lots of training in hazmat and nitro. The design is from what he learned there.
My first real spray day today and I can not smell the lacquer as long as the body is inside the air curtain and the fans are running.

John
That is lovely. There is a write-up and a drawing in there somewhere - maybe a video with the front off the lower cabinet and tracing the path of the air curtain. Then out the side showing the location of the fan and following the fan duct. Very cool
