My new bandsaw

I had a 10" bandsaw, which I was grateful for, but I really need a bit more power. The 10" got bogged down sometimes when sawing chunks of ebony or rosewood.

A neighbor gave me this 12" Craftsman bandsaw. I think it's probably about 30 years old, but it was made in the USA by Emerson Electric. The aluminum pulley was a little bent, causing a vibration. I bought a nice steel pulley. My husband got the new pulley on and aligned. Everything else is in great shape.

I think I'm going to upgrade the blade guides to the composite type that don't heat up. I may go ahead and replace the tires with urethane tires and stick a new belt on it for good measure, to being it into the 21st century.

But, she runs smoothly, cuts beautifully, and very accurately.

She may not be much to look at, but she's a workhorse.

I think so too Ed. I had initially looked for a 12". Nowadays, the next size up is 14", but I don't need a saw that big. I have to say, she saws smooth as can be. I have the same width and tpi blade in her, as I did the 10". The wood is much easier to control while cutting and the quality of cut is much nicer.

She's so much easier to adjust. No more fussing with Allen wrenches! Plus, she has a tension gauge inside of her housing

nice. jelly. My table top Delta is frustratingly small but I do get a lot of use out of it.
