Good points both - not having to glue the rod in and having the height correct so that the rod bears on the back of the fretboard with no slop.
A just installed a Blanchard rod and it is hard to believe that this one will ever break. A little more expensive at $40, but very smooth and sturdy

Yes - I've been using the FlexStrong truss rods, of similar quality. After seeing one of those, or a Blanchard, most all the other truss rods out there look pretty crude by comparison.

I just use a small chisel and a 3mm gouge. The gouge makes a U shaped channel so the rod lays down nicely with no rattle.
