Fantastic Book Explaining Finishes and Finishing

Post by Kbore »

This is one of the best books that explain the mechanics and some basic chemistry of the components in Finishing. One of the best books in my library, and very detailed:UNDERSTANDING WOOD FINISHING: How to Select and Apply the Right Finish; Bob Flexner;

Cabinets are different from guitars but learning how a finish is applied is never a bad thing.

As my teacher told me , it isn't what you put on , as much as what it is you let on .

Another book I find to be very good at explaining the chemistry of different finishes is "Gunstock Finishing and Care," by A. Donald Newelll. It does suffer from being rather dated -- it was published in 1952 or something -- and it may be out of print, but I've found it helpful.

And of course, a gunstock is not a guitar...
