20's inspired Stella Grand Concert strung up
Hi Folks,
I finally got around to stringing up and doing an initial set-up on my 1920's inspired Grand Concert Guitar. I'll let it sit for a week or so, then dial in the set-up (right now a bit high at the nut). Within the first minutes of "life", I can already tell this is one loud ladder braced guitar :-).
Typical Grand Concerts of this period had 26 1/8 - 26 1/2 scale. I made this one standard Martin scale, 25.4. I am planning on building a pair of these with some beautiful Curly Birch and going with 26.5" scale - doing my first 12 string, and a 6. I have 2 guitars in front of those however, so will have to wait a bit (I like to build in 2's)
Glenn

Do you have more pictures. It really turned out well. Any chance you have a recording?

Re: 20's inspired Stella Grand Concert strung up
Thanks Guy! I am away traveling back to NJ for my Sons graduation. When I get back home in Tampa I'll post more pics. I have exact dimensions home too, but basically this is inspired from my 1925 Joseph Nettuno Grand Concert and '20's Stella Grand Concert guitars. ~14.75 lower bout. Back and sides are QS white oak, red spruce top. Ebony FB and bridge. FB inlays are like the fancy oscar Schmidt guitars in '20's
When I get back I want to dial in the setup. Has a very mid rangy tone, which is what you want from the ladder braced guitars.

A few more pics:
A shot of the label. I tried to capture the old Oscar Schmidt Stella label: Close-up of the back: The ladder bracing. I added the sound hole braces as these old guitars tended to collapse and have a sunken sound hole.: Glenn
